Buying a Love Doll: 10 Tips for a Safe Purchase
A lifelike doll can easily cost more than a holiday. With these ten tips you'll recognise reputable shops, avoid customs trouble and get exactly the doll you have in mind.
1. Buy from a shop with full company details
A reputable shop states its company name, address and contact details. If those are missing, or there's only a WhatsApp number, stay away. Fake shops with copied photos and unrealistic prices are common in this market.
2. Be wary of prices that sound too good
A life-size branded doll for €300 is either a fake or a cheap copy. Reputable TPE dolls start at around €1,000.
3. Look for authorised brands
Good retailers are official partners of well-known makers such as WM Doll, Irontech, Zelex or Starpery, and often show a certificate on their site. That way you get the genuine product, not a knock-off.
4. Ask for real photos
Many retailers send you photos of your finished, configured doll before shipping, so you can check the wig, eye colour and skin tone. Ask for them.
5. Prefer a warehouse in your region
If the doll ships from outside your customs area, import VAT and possibly customs duty will usually apply, plus longer delivery times. Shops with a local warehouse deliver faster and without these surprises.
6. Check the return policy before buying
Important: For custom-configured dolls and unsealed hygiene products, the statutory right of withdrawal may not apply. Read the shop's return policy before you order.
7. Choose a safe payment method
Where possible, pay by PayPal with buyer protection, credit card or through a well-known instalment provider. Be careful with shops that only accept international bank transfers or cryptocurrency.
8. Confirm discreet shipping
Reputable shops ship in a plain box with no logo or description of the contents. Your bank statement should also show a neutral company name.
9. Plan size and weight realistically
A life-size doll often weighs 30 to 45 kg and arrives in a large box. Think about where you will store it and whether you can move it easily. Lighter models or a hanging stand can help.
10. Adult-looking models only
Dolls with a childlike appearance are illegal in many countries, including Germany, Austria and the UK. Reputable shops state clearly that all models depict adults. Avoid shops that offer anything else.
